Canary channel

Canary is the prerelease channel for trying upcoming changes. Expect bugs and use Stable for everyday use if you need reliability.

Open the Canary web app. Reload the page to get new deployments.

Open Tensamin releases and choose a revision-specific canary- prerelease. Download the Linux file for your architecture and follow the desktop instructions. Install newer Canary releases manually or through the package manager that installed the app. Windows and macOS are coming soon.

Download the signed APK from a canary- prerelease and open it to install. Canary has a yellow icon and application ID net.tensamin.client.canary. Stable uses net.tensamin.client. They install separately, so you can keep both. Installing Canary does not replace or switch your Stable app.

For updates, install a newer Canary APK or install Obtainium and import this configuration:

For manual Obtainium setup, use the Android settings, change the release-title filter to ^canary-, and enable prereleases. The JSON import file also includes Canary. Android still checks signing keys and version codes. The app has no built-in updater or channel switch. iOS is coming soon.

Download the Iota CLI and matching installer bundle from the same canary- prerelease, then follow Iota setup. Verify the signing key before running the CLI as root.

An unmanaged system-wide installation keeps its channel in /etc/iota/update.env. Run sudo iota update channel to check it. Its updater follows that channel; the CLI cannot switch between Stable and Canary. Install the other channel’s matching bundle separately and plan how to preserve account data and identities. Back up persistent state first. A binary rollback does not undo data changes.

NixOS installations use their pinned flake sources and update through system rebuilds, not the Iota updater.

Tags such as canary-<revision> identify a particular build. The canary release alias moves to the latest Canary build and also includes its installers and Iota update metadata. Stable follows the same pattern with stable-<revision> and stable.

Publication waits for builds, server deployment, and web deployment to succeed. Canary uses different default services from Stable. Do not assume that accounts or stored data transfer between channels.
